
When she was four years old,Vanessa Bell Armstrong began traveling with her mother singing in various churches in the Detroit. When she was thirteen years old, she was discovered by Dr. Mattie Moss Clark and began traveling with Clark, singing and sharing the stage with gospel titans Rev. James Cleveland, the Mighty Clouds of Joy, the Clark Sisters, and the Winans. Her own recording career began in 1984 and in 1987 she won Aretha Franklin and Patti LaBelle to record the theme song for the popular TV sit-com Amen. Vanessa has continually expanded her horizons and her audience, performing on Broadway and releasing eclectic, contemporary albums. Her music has been praised by Oprah Winfrey, Anita Baker, Luther Vandross, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Tisha Campbell. Artists such as Sandra Crouch and Donna McElroy have found musical guidance and inspiration in Vanessa’s music and career.
